THE WINNERS OF THE ARMENIAN STAGE OF THE WORLD ROBOT OLYMPIAD, SUPPORTED BY "ROSTELECOM" WERE ANNOUNCED

On September 15, 2018 the winners of the national tour of the World Robot Olympiad were announced Arm Cyber Kids team (Ines and Ashot Gasparyans) was the fastest and the one to make the robot with the certain preannounced characteristics and win the highest scores.

Two more teams were also awarded with diplomas – Whiz Kids team from Yerevan and Duxov team from Syunik region respectfully in the “First Category” and “The Best result in age group” nominations.

“Being a technological company “Rostelecom” highlights the importance of such events, as children’s attention is focused on robotics, maths and a number of other very important and up-to-date subjects. The winners of the Armenian tour will get the opportunity to participate in the international contest as well where they will gain new experiences and knowledge”, - mentioned the CEO of “Rostelecom” Armenia Hayk Faramazyan.

In 2018 12 teams from Yerevan and regions took part in the Olympiad and after getting the confirmation from the international jury the winner team will represent Armenia at the international tour of the Olympiad, which will take place in November in Thailand.

This year the competition is held under the motto “The Food is Important”, and the participating teams must create robots helping to reduce food waste, gathering data on land quality of different farmlands, handling the temperature in the ships so that food that is easily rotting during transfer is kept at appropriate temperature and other conditions.

Since 2016 the national tour of the competition has been held in Armenia to promote teaching of robotics, programming and engineering in the schools of Armenia. Moreover, every year the number of teams participating in the annual event becomes even more.

The official organizer of the national tour of the competition is “Ayb” Educational Foundation. The sponsor of the 2018 national tour of the Olympiad is “Rostelecom” Armenia.

The venue of the event was “Ayb” school and starting from 4pm guests could become part of the event and participate in the visitor tour and robots’ demonstration in FabLab, Lego games with Mind Center and Whiz Code Academy, visit to the “Ayb” School Lego Lab, participate in dance classes, hospitality.

About World Robot Olympiad

The aim of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) is to unite children and youth from all over the world around the idea of robotics and to develop their creativity, planning and problem solving skills.

The competition was launched in 2004. Today more than 60.000 children and youth aged 6-25 from more than 60 countries participate in the competition annually.

The official representative of the national tour of the competition is “Ayb” Educational Foundation.

 

Technical information about the competition

The minimum number of participants in the team is 2, maximum – 3.

The team should have at least 20-year-old team lead. The team lead can’t be a team member.

Only 6-19 year-old children and youngsters can participate in the competition. It is not obligatory to represent a concrete school for participation. The team can be formed from children of different schools. Teams can compete in different “categories” (the choice is made in advance).

How is the winner chosen?

The robot performs the task three times. The winner becomes the robot with the highest score.
