WHY SHOULD ARMENIAN JOURNALISTS PARTICIPATE IN INTERNATIONAL CONTESTS? “ROSTELECOM” CONTEST

Since December 2014 “Rostelecom” holds the international competition “Technologies for life-Internet at the speed of light” in Armenia organized for journalists covering the IT sphere. Every year hundreds of journalists from Russia and Armenia participate in the competition and the winners visit leading technological companies: Ericsson (Stockholm, Sweden), Huawei (Shenzhen, China), ZTE (Shenzhen, China).

“When I heard about the competition, I decided to apply for it. It was an exciting opportunity to visit a unique country like China. It was an enchanting prize-China, Huawei Company. I immediately imagined how interesting the journey will be. Professional discussions, new acquaintances. It was an opportunity to be in the center of events, to see and know about new projects, to get acquainted with the IT sphere”, - tells the winner from Armenia of 2015 contest, TV journalist Haykuhi Asatryan.

In summer 2015 Haykuhi took part in the meeting for the journalists organized by “Rostelecom” in Moscow where were announced the 5 winner visiting China. Later in fall together with the Russian winners, the journalist from Armenia visited the headquarters of Huawei Company in China.

“Although we had little time I managed to get new friends, got acquainted with Russian colleagues’ work style, some details of Russian IT journalism. And the most important, within a week I found many topics that need to be covered. There were participants from different regions of Russia and it was interesting to know about the developments of in their region IT sphere. The journey was a work restart for me.”-mentions Haykuhi Asatryan.

The competition 2016 has started yet in November and journalists from Armenia can upload their articles on the website www.smi.rt.ru till April 20 and become one of the China visitors.
 

About the contest “Technologies for life-more opportunities”

The competition is held to get the attention of Media and bloggers on objective and better coverage of innovative technologies and services and their applications in different spheres of society.

Together with the Russian delegation the winner will visit ZTE Company’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China in fall 2016. More than 500 mass media representatives from Russia and Armenia each year participate in the project.

The contest is held among all representatives of media that illustrate the scope of IT: print media (newspapers, magazines); radio and television; online media (including news Agencies); social media (bloggers).

Members of the contest Armenian jury are representatives from IT institutions:

- Karen Vardanyan- Executive Director of the Union of Information Technology Enterprises of Armenia
- Siranush Gyurjinyan-Head of Public Relations Unit of “Rostelecom” Armenia

The competition among Russian journalists is being held for the fifth time. It acquired international status after the participation of Armenian journalists in 2014-2015.
